Eagles Trap the Grizzles

Mariposa 40 - Turlock Christian 56

Mariposa and Turlock Christian entered Thursday nights game in a battle for 2nd place in the Southern League. The Grizzles at 8-3 and the Eagles at 8-4 with the winner being in the drivers seat for the second spot in the league. At the end of the night Mariposa was 8-4 and TC 9-4, just percentage points ahead in the league standings. Due to a postponed game with Waterford on Monday Mariposa has played one less league game then TC. What that does to the league standings is anyones guess, but it means nothing if the Lady Eagles can win their last 2 games.

Mariposa fell behind the Eagles in the first quarter and were never able to come back. The Grizzles threw a box and one, with a defender shadowing Erin Santiago, that never really worked. Before they knew what hit them Erin had dished out 3 assists and without shooting the ball had a hand in the first 7 points of the game and TC was leading 10 to 3 after just a few minutes. When Mariposa went back to a "normal" defense Erin rained a storm of 3 pointers down on them, eventually making 5. With the offense looking good and an another outstanding defensive game the Eagles won easily.

Outstanding Performances Included:

Points: Erin Santiago (16), Amy Wright (14), and Molly Farrar (7).
Rebounds: Kaisa Spycher (13), Amy and Erin (9 each)
Steals: Candice Balswick (3), Amy (2).
Assists: Erin (7), Molly and Tiffany Snyder (4 each).
Blocks: Marly Burton and Kaisa (3 each).

Great game and keep it up:-)

Baby Birds Win the Southern League

With Mariposa coming into the game with only 2 league losses, both to the Eaglets, they needed a win and some end of the year upsets to gain just a part of the Southern League title. Unfortunately for them they will end the season as the 2nd place team for a second year in a row. In the last two years Mariposa has lost only 5 games in Southern League play, all to Turlock Christian, and will have to hope for better times next year. Congratulations to the Eaglets and Coaches Wright and Wright with a great championship season:-)

REBOUNDS ARE KING, OR IS THAT QUEEN:~)

The TC Lady Eagles lead California with 51.9 rebounds per game. While other teams high on the list have at least one dominate rebounder, #2 Lutheran Pacific Lutheran has a player averaging 20+ rebounds per game, the Lady Eagles are doing their rebound thing without a player in the top 350 in the state. Great job as a team!
