TC @ Sierra High

The Eagles Swim Against Sierra (Manteca) and Ceres

The "Sea Birds" continued to be impressive as they swam at Sierra High School in Manteca on Friday. Not only did the team look good in the pool but they also looked good setting up for the meet and providing timers as the Sierra swimmers just "chilled". I guess that is the price of having no "home" pool.

A really exciting moment in the meet was when the the 200 Free Relay team came from 10 yards behind on the last leg to beat all the other teams in the race. The victory was short lived as it was discovered that Colin is not an official member of the GIRLS Relay :0

Aubrey Larson improved her time in the 50 Free with a 29.58

TC Swim 3-27-09 17
Rebekah Muller lowered the school record in the 50 Free to 25.50

Molly Zuhlke set a school record in the JV 50 Fly with a 36.93 that beat both the Ceres and Sierra JVers by a half a pool length.

TC Swim 3-27-09 84
Colin Russell is now the school record holder in the 100 fly with a 1:00.18

Daniel Braden's 1:07.17 in the 100 Free is good for a school record at JV

Rebekah Muller set a school record and achieved a section qualifying time of 55.79 in the Girls Varsity 100 Free.

Colin Russell's 53.09 is a school record in the Varsity Boys 100 Free.

TC Swim 3-27-09 42
Molly Zuhlke was up to the challenge of a 500 Free with a varsity school record of 7:26.18.

TC Swim 3-27-09 86
Daniel Braden set a varsity 100 breast record with a 1:15.25, but did not swim a PR in the event as his JV time is faster:-)

Micah Larson did his best ever in the 100 breast with a JV school record of 1:21.48

Great job swimmers.

Next week we are at Sierra High School in Manteca again.

TC Swim 3-27-09 73
Fans come out to support the team from as far away as Kentucky, so we expect TC supporters can make the 30 mile drive to Manteca:-)

Come and support the "Water Birds". Its a lot of fun.

A New Era Begins: TC Swimming

A new era in Turlock Christian sports began on Friday the 13th of March 2009, the sport of swimming. With just 7 participates the TC Eagles dove into their first swim meet, competing with Los Banos and Pitman High Schools, and demonstrated some outstanding efforts. As a new team the Eagles are not competing in a league but are being allowed to compete with some of the Central California Conference teams at their dual meets. The results of these dual meets will qualify some, if not all, of the Eagle swimmers for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Swim Meet at the end of the season. At their first meet 6 of the 7 swimmers participated and did a great job. Anyone who thought they would bring up the rear and not be competitive with the other high schools was pleased and surprised. Rebekah Muller had the best varsity time of the meet in the 50 free at 25.58 beating a former teammate from the Hughson Seadogs and Molly Zuhlke would have placed 3rd in both the 50 and 100 free at the JV level. Rebekah and Colin Russell both swam section qualifying times in the 50 Free. To see Sac-Joaquin Section qualifying times just click this sentence. The times are on the second page of the document.

Every time someone swims and improves the previous time they set a school recorded in that event. The simplicity of being the first will make recorded keeping pretty simple this year.

School records and personal bests set on Friday included:

50 Free
Girls JV - Molly Zuhlke 33.02 (TC Record)
Boys JV - Daniel Braden 30.64 (TC Record)
TC Swim 3-13-09 46 Daniel on the blocks

Boys Varsity - Colin Russell 23.38 (TC Record / Section Qualifying)

TC Swim 3-13-09 68Johanna Backin It

The meet was a great time and you would be surprised how many people you know, such as parents, swimmers, and friends, from the other swim programs. Come out and give it a try. Our next meet will be Friday, March 20th at 3 PM at Pitman High School in Turlock. A meet takes about 2 hours.

See Ya at the pool:-)

Did You Know: TC's Newest Sport - Swimming

The TC Eagles have a new sport this Spring, swimming. The team consists of 7 or 8 swimmers and will be practicing at the Pitman High School pool. The teams 1st meet is today vs Los Banos (sort of)@ 3 PM at Pitman High School. The swimmers are participating as "independents", which means that their times count toward the post-season CIF section meet, but technically they are not competing against other high schools.

I will post a meet schedule, once I get it, and we would love to see you come out to support the team.

Lady Eagles Close Season With Great Game

Lady Eagles vs Bradshaw 44-57

The Eagles closed their season with a hard fought loss in the semi-finals to eventual section champion Bradshaw Christian last Tuesday night 44-57. It was the furthest a Turlock Christian teams has advanced since the Sac-Joaquin section went to a 16 team tournament format. TC shocked the Pride as the two teams were tied at halftime with 22 points each. It was a great game and a great season for the girls. I'm already getting excited about next year.

Lady Eagles Defeat the RC Knights

Eagles Beat Knights 37-27

The Lady Eagles began the game on Thursday a bit cold on offense. Defense was a different story at they held RC to only 9 free throws in the first half. Turlock Christian's man-to-man defense confused the Knights for the entire 1st half. RC can out with a new offense and began to score with ease against the man defense in the third quarter. After a time out the Eagles switched to a zone defense and forced RC to try their luck with the outside game. The combination of the zone D and the lack of outside firepower for the Knights brought the win home to the Eagles.
