Eagles vs Panthers: Some Facts About Lutheran

Welcome to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V play-offs. As the Lady Eagles enter the section tournament they wll face teams that are unknown. The Eagles will be facing Lutheran High School of Elk Grove in tonight's first round of the tournament. The Panthers are a small, 60 students, conservative Christian school much like TC. They are in the play-offs for the first time after many years of being at the bottom of the Sacramento Metro League, a league that includes Bradshaw Christian. The Panthers ended the season in 5th place in league and with a 7-10 over-all record. The only common opponent was Bradshaw Christian and both those games were 50+ losses for Lutheran.

The Eagles should win their opening round game, but they need to play with heart. The last two games of league play the girls seemed to be "going through the motions". In those games the players took at least a quarter to play like league champs. In the Waterford game Coach Santiago replaced the entire starting unit for a few minutes just to motivate them. The "platooning" did get the starters going but continuing it throughout the game did not give the second unit an opportunity to raise to the level of the starters. Throughout the season when substitutions have been made there have been starters still in the game with the fresh players which resulted in outstanding play by those substitutes. We look forward to that continuing.
