TC: First Place in Southern League

The Lady Eagles opened Southern League play with a hard fought win against the LeGrand Bulldogs. The Bulldogs kept the game close throughout, giving the Eagles their first real challenge of the season. The Eagles out scored Le Grand in the first 3 quarters assuring the victory. When two starters went out with 3 fouls in the first half it looked like the Bulldogs could work their way back into the game but tough play by reserves Kara Gabrielson, Molly Zuhlke, Candice Balswick, and Natalie Snyder kept LeGrand in check as the 1st half came to an end. With Molly Farrar and Halie Bergman on the bench the "speed" game of the Eagles, just out run their opponents, was put aside for a more deliberate style. When the second half started Molly F and Halie were back and LeGrand was done. The combination of size, Kaisa Spycher and Marly Burton, and speed, Halie, Molly, Candice and others, was to much for the Bulldogs.

The officiating made the game exciting as it was a mystery most of the game. Jump balls were called many times when two players just happened to touch the ball at the same time. There were numerous delayed calls being made 1 to 2 seconds after the play. As a former high school coach I never cared if the officials were great or poor, all I wanted was consistent. You can work with consistent, but the officials last night weren't.

Kaisa Getting Ready to Block a Shot

There were many outstanding performances last night that helped the team win. The supporting case off the bench ate up the clock in the 1st half making the fouls less of a problem. Halie getting her fourth foul as she drove to the basket and then having the wisdom to avoid any other offensive fouls by taking short jumpers.

Outstanding Individual Preformances include:

Rebounds: Kaisa (15), Marly (13), Amy Wright and Molly F (7 each).
Block Shots: Marly and Kaisa (6 each) and Amy (3).
Assists: Molly F. (5).

Ever wonder how owr team stacks up to the rest of the Sac-Joaquin Section?

Per Game averages out of 173 teams:

Points: 4th
Blocks: 1st
Rebounds: 1st
Assists: 7th
