Waterford vs TC

TC Basketball 2010 09

Lady Eagles get fired up for a recent game. Look at the craziness in their eyes.

The Lady Eagles of Turlock Christian, ranked 2nd in the Sac-Joaquin Section in Division 5, faced the Waterford Wildcats on Thursday night in Waterford. The Eagles once again used a superior defense to pound an opponent in the opening quarter. With an agressive press and an over-playing man to man the girls opened the game with a 15 to 6 1st quarter and continued to out score the Wildcats in every quarter. The final score of 69-32 was the highest output by TC during Southern League play this season. The offense was led by Molly Farrar's 17 points and 47% shooting and Amy Wright's 14 points. The defense continued to dominate Southern League opponents as they snagged 34 defensive rebounds, stoled the ball 15 times and blocked 6 shots. Team play continues to improve as the the scoring, rebounds and assists are spread evenly throughout the team. The victory gave the Lady Eagles a 5-0 record after the first of the triple round robins, now having beating every team in the league. Tonight's game vs LeGrand is a critical league contest that could determine the eventual Southern League champion. Come out an see two very good teams fight it out.

Outstanding individual defensive preformances included;

Defensive Rebounds: Amy Wright (11), Kaisa Spycher (5), and Molly Zuhlke (4)

Steals: Kara Gabrielson, Natalie Synder, and Molly Farrar (3 each)

Great job in the first round as the Eaglettes (JV) went 3 and 2. Way to go players, coaches, and fans:-)

The Modesto Bee had a nice article on Saturday about Thursday's game vs Waterford:

SOUTHERN LEAGUE — Turlock Christian (14-3, 5-0) used the one-two punch of Molly Farrar (17 points, eight assists) and Amy Wright (14 points, six assists) to post a 69-32 win over Waterford (6-5, 2-3). The Eagles used a 22-point second quarter to take a 37-17 lead into the locker room, and finished 14 of 22 from the free-throw line. The Eagles showed their depth on the perimeter, as Wright, Kara Gabrielson and Candice Balswick each hit a 3-pointer. Farrer and Wright also allowed TC to dominate under the boards, as each pulled down 15 rebounds to finish with double-doubles.

Denair vs the Running Clock

TC Basketball 2010 10
Out of control fans at a recent game

The high school mercy rule was on display on Monday night as the Eagles crushed the lowly Coyotes. It was evident from the defensive play that the Lady Eagles are turning an overwhelming defense into a very good offence. The girls in purple and grey had 14 shots blocked in just the 1st half. As the Denair players drove pass the first line of defense where their temporary delight was turned into a nightmare as their shots were rejected by help or a long arm from behind. The tight TC defense held Denair to a mere 13% shooting for the night. The Lady Eagles were so good on "D" that they even held the Coyotes to 33% from the free throw line;-)

On the offensive end of the court the Eagles continue to impress. A balanced offence refused to give the Coyotes any hope. Natalie Snyder had her best game as a Lady Eagle scoring 13 points which included three 3 pointers. Amy Wright also scored 13 and Kaisa Spycher make 15 points. When substitutes came in there was no let down on defence and the offence continued to roll. Every girl who played scored including Simi Grewal's first point of her varsity career. Her smile was great:-) The girls played hard against their rivials and never let up in the 61-18 pasting of Denair.

Outstanding Performances Included:

Steals: Molly Farrar (7) and Candice Balswick (4).
Rebounds: Kaisa Spycher (19), Kara Gabrielson (10) and Molly Zuhlke (7).
Blocks: Kaisa (3) and Molly Z (2).
Assists: Molly F (7), Candice (5) and Natalie Snyder (4).

The Eaglettes improved to 2 wins and 2 losses in the Southern League with an impressive win over Denair.

Take a road trip to Waterford (7 miles) on Thursday, Jan 14th and cheer the Eagles as they take on the Water Buffaloes, that isn't what they are but I think it would be a good mascot, at Waterford High School.

Mariposa Cubs Trapped by the Eagles

The Lady Eagles continue to shine as they put the kabash to Mariposa 52 -31 in the mountains on Monday. The Eagles dominated the defensive end of the court. The defense produced 17 blocked shots, six by Marly Burton and five by Kaisa Spycher, 35 defensive rebounds, 13 by Marly, and 19 steals, Molly Farrar and Candice Balswick leading the way with six and five respectively. If took the offense a little time to settle in but then scored 31 points in the second half. Outstanding offensive nights were had by Kaisa scoring 16 points, Molly making 14, and Marly dropping in 9 points. Molly F. turned in a rare "triple double". That's when an athlete has 10 or more in 3 different statistical categories. Molly's triple was 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 --- well if you want to know just go to TC's MaxPrep web page.

Eagles Improve to 2-0 in Southern League

TC Basketball 2010 08
Some of the Lady Eagles

The Lady Eagles won their second league game in as many tries on Monday night. The girls turned in a great team effort as freshman sensation Halie Bergman left the game in the first quarter with an injury. The girls rallied behind excellent offensive performances by Kaisa Spycher (18 points), Molly Farrar (13 points), and Amy Wright (10 points). Candice Balswick (8 points) and Halie (9 points) also contributed to the scoring. Scoring off the bench were Kara Gabrielson (4 points) and Natalie Snyder and Molly Zuhlke (2 points each). This reporter observed Molly Z leap at least 3 or 4 feet straight up as she shot over the defender. She also shared that her attempted 3 pointer was a result of Coach Edwin's encouragement from the bench:-)

The Eagles dominated the defensive end of the court with 27 steals, led by Molly F's 7 and Candice B's 5. Marly Burton blocked 4 shots and grabbed 7 defensive rebounds while Molly Z blocked 2 shots and snagged 3 steals. Amy Wright had an excellent over-all game, ripping down 9 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists, and shooting 71% (5/7) for the night.

At press time I am not sure how serious Halie Bergman's injury is, but remember her in your prayers as she recovers.

The Lady Eagles travel to Grizzle country (Mariposa High) on Thursday. Take a drive to the mountains and enjoy the game.
